Top five weapons of mass distraction

  1. Public Relation (PR) companies. They make ‘news’ out of ‘products’, and present it to the media which is all fine until you realise that most news is based around products. Thus anything with a product in it is not news.
  2. Advertising: With endless marketing dollars, Woolies and Coles try to make us believe they are the friend of the farmer. This duopoly controls 85 per cent of our food supply, and no politician – apart from a few like Bob Katter – will publicly advocate laws that would ensure our farmers get a decent deal from either.
  3. The cult of celebrity. John Laws is a master broadcaster but is not a journalist. Unfortunately his listeners believe that he is a journalist. Recently Laws allowed a poor uneducated woman to rant on about how David Hicks was a traitor against Australia. There was a pause where he could have said, ‘Well actually, he fought against the Russians before it was our problem.’ Laws is also the master at leaving ignorance to fester.
  4. Politics:The ALP Thomson affair. Like Michael Franti said, ‘I don’t care who you are screwing in private, I want to know who you are screwing public.’ Both parties have major credibility issues, and believing that either one will provide leadership and vision is complete folly.
  5. Tits. Some things are just needed. We are all titty hard-wired and unfortunately we have no choice in this matter. Unless you are a bottle-fed homosexual male you needed them to survive at one point.
